Leckie scored a spectacular opening goal for Hertha Berlin as they recorded a 2-1 win over Bayer Leverkusen.

With quarter of an hour gone, Leckie weaved his way past some would-be defenders and unleashed a magnificent effort from the edge of the penalty area into the top corner.

The strike was Leckie’s fourth goal in five Bundesliga games this season, and helped Hertha rise up to eighth on the table.

In front of nearly 33,000, Ivory Coast international and former Chelsea star Salomon Kalou added a second goal shortly after Leckie's opener.

Bayer Leverkusen pulled back a late goal, but Hertha Berlin held on to clinch all three points and ending a three-game winless streak in all competitions.

Syria's record in Malaysia

Leckie was on Tuesday named in Ange Postecoglou's preliminary 30-man squad for next month's make-or-break FIFA World Cup qualifying play-offs against Syria.

The squad will be trimmed to 23 next week, with Leckie a certainty to be included for the matches in Malaysia (October 5) and Sydney (October 10).
