Aussies Abroad: Big clean sheet for Behich

With COVID-19, various cup competitions and rearranged fixtures causing disruptions, there were just a handful of Aussies in action over the weekend.

We start our action in Turkey, where Aziz Behich played a full 90 minutes at left-back for Giresunspor, managing to keep a clean sheet in a 1-0 win against heavyweights Galatasaray.

Joining a few weeks into the campaign with the newly-promoted club occupying the relegation places, Behich has been a consistent starter for Giresunspor as they have risen up the table in recent months.

The Socceroos fullback has played 18 of their last 20 league games, with their latest standout result on the road seeing them climb to 14th in the table - just two points behind traditional powerhouses Galatasaray.

In the Bundesliga, Ajdin Hrustic played 92 minutes in the base of midfield for Eintracht Frankfurt in a heartbreaking 3 - 2 loss to Borussia Dortmund, where Frankfurt surrendered a two-goal lead after conceding twice in the last four minutes.

Hrustic's side were coming off three-straight wins, and remain seventh in the table as they battle to claim a place in the European positions for next season.

Over in England, it was FA Cup weekend, with Kenny Dougall playing a full match in centre midfield for Blackpool in their 1-0 away loss to Hartlepool on Saturday evening.

Callum Elder's Hull City unfortunately fell to Premier League side Everton 3 - 2 with the Socceroos forward missing our due to a groin strain that is set to keep him on the sidelines for a few weeks.

Despite getting some decent playing time of late, Australia’s number one Maty Ryan was an unused substitute for Real Sociedad's 1 - 0 win over Celta Vigo.

The win sees La Real climb back into the top four of La Liga, with their next assignment a Copa Del Ray Round of 16 clash against Athletico Madrid on January 19.

In the Israeli Premier League, forward Nikita Rukavstya played a full 90 minutes and was booked for Hapoel Beer-Sheva FC in their 1 - 0 loss to Maccabi Tel-Aviv FC.

The result sees Rukavstya's former side Maccabi Haifia overtake Hapoel into top spot on the ladder with 17 games played.

Finally, in the A-League Men, Jamie Maclaren nodded in  his third goal of the campaign in Melbourne City's thrilling 3-3 draw with Western Sydney Wanderers on Sunday.
