Aussie Futsal Winners off to Germany with Hyundai

In scenes reminiscent of Telstra Stadium on 16 November last year, Victoria have won the right to represent Australia at the 3rd Hyundai Football World Championship to be held in Germany.

In scenes reminiscent of Telstra Stadium on 16 November last year, Victoria have won the right to represent Australia at the 3rd Hyundai Football World Championship to be held in Germany on the 30th June, 2006, with a heart-stopping 4-1 penalty shoot out victory over NSW, after the scores remained level at 0-0 at fulltime last week in Melbourne.

Six of Australia-s premier futsal teams from around the country converged on Melbourne for the honour to be the ‘other Australian team- represented in Germany next month. The tournament champion-s prize is return travel and accommodation to Germany for the team to take part in the 2006 Hyundai Football World Championships Finals in Frankfurt on 30th June 2006 - courtesy of Hyundai Motor Company!

Victoria were the outsiders coming into the semi-finals after finishing the preliminary rounds in 4th position. However, after accounting for pre-tournament favourites and minor premiers ACT Academy in the semi-final, the Victorians battled bravely to hold off a fast finishing NSW side in the final. With scores deadlocked at fulltime, the final progressed to a penalty shoot-out with Victoria holding their nerve best to claim an enthralling title.
