Ange Postecoglou said his team made a statement after they thrashed Jordan 5-1 in Sydney on Tuesday night with Robbie Kruse earning his praise.Australia cruised to an easy win at Allianz stadium to top Group B of AFC World Cup qualifiers and progress to the final phase of qualification.
“It was good. It wasn’t just about getting a result – we were pretty confident we’d win the game – we really wanted a strong performance.
“And I thought it was a strong performance [last] Thursday night against a weaker opponent. But the signs were really good [against Jordan].
"We were a totally dominant side from start to finish."
Socceroos thrash Redknapp's Jordan
“The boys have been very good in camp. All looked bright and fresh and pleased for them they got the rewards tonight.
Postecoglou felt his side should’ve scored another “five or six” while noting his squad has a stronger feel 12 months ago.
The plan is to continue strengthening the depth and patterns of play.
As for the wild tackle on Robbie Kruse which ultimately lead to the German-based striker being subbed off, Postecoglou was less than impressed.
“He’s okay. It wasn’t a great tackle to be fair, a bit disappointing at the end. But he should be okay. He should be fine.”
It was perhaps the only downside of another fabulous night for the national team that continues to forge ahead and deliver on the vision of Postecoglou.
“I wanted him [Kruse] to get some reward for what he did for us at the Asian Cup,” added Postecoglou.
“Tonight was a good night for him [Kruse]. It was always the plan to start him tonight.
“But tonight was tailor made for him. I thought he looked really sharp at training and was outstanding while he played.”
Australia will find out its opponents for the next phase of World Cup qualifiers on April 12 when the draw is made in Kuala Lumpur
