Caltex Socceroos coach Ange Postecoglou said he was proud of his team’s fighting spirit after an eye-catching second half in Tuesday morning’s 3-2 loss to Germany at the Confederations Cup.
They recovered from a slow start to really push the reigning world champions.
POOR FIRST HALF
“First half they were too good for us, and we struggled to get control of the game.
“And we made it too easy for them and probably lucky to go in 2-1,” Postecoglou told SBS TV.
BETTER SECOND 45
“Second half was better. Absolutely I thought we matched it with them for periods of the game.
“And the character and resilience they showed is unquestionable.
“And from that point of view I’m always proud of them. And I wanted them to be brave.
“And we had a few opportunities to get another one."
“We weren’t making enough forward runs and that’s what Krusey [sub Robbie Kruse] gives us.
“I felt if we got the ball to our midfield in good areas and with Krusey making some forward runs causing them problems. It worked okay.”
