History against the Caltex Socceroos: The two nations have met on three occasions, with Colombia winning two – including the most recent in 2001 – and the other match drawn.

Key men: Skipper James Rodriguez is the star man of a talented squad, which finished fourth in CONMEBOL qualifying for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Rodriguez, who plays for Bayern Munich in Germany, won the golden boot at the 2014 FIFA World Cup and also scored goal of the tournament for his stunner against Uruguay.

Monaco striker Radomel Falcao, Juventus winger Juan Cuadrado and defender Yerry Mina, who has just signed with Barcelona, are other players to watch.

Recent form: In the always tricky CONMEBOL qualifying group, Colombia booked their spot in Russia with a final round 1-1 draw with Peru, one of Australia’s Group C opponents at the tournament.

Despite losing five matches in qualifying, they won seven and drew the other six in the gruelling 18-game format.

Interestingly, their last two friendly matches have both been against Asian opposition in November last year.

The first of those games ended in a 2-1 defeat against Korea Republic, before they bounced back to beat China 4-0.

That win over the Chinese is their only victory in their last six matches in all competition.
