ACTION IN THE UK…
ENGLISH FA CUP Final Date: 22-05-04 * Socceroo Tim Cahill (pictured right) played a full game as Millwall lost 3-0 against Manchester United at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff. Millwall will still qualify to compete in the UEFA Cup next year as United had already qualified for Europe.
NATIONWIDE DIVISION TWO Play Off Date: 20-05-04 * Paul Reid was replaced in the 48th minute as Brighton and Hove Albion lost 2-1 at home against Swindon Town. A goal in the 120th minute by Adam Virgo took the match to penalties, with Brighton advancing to the Final by winning four goals to three. Date: 19-05-04 * Luke Wilkshire remained on the bench as Bristol City won 2-1 at home against Hartlepool. Meanwhile, for Hartlepool, Joel Porter was replaced in the 89th minute. Bristol City qualified for the Nationwide Division Two play-off final by winning 3-2 on aggregate. ACTION IN EUROPE…
AUSTRIAN DIVISION ONE Date: 20-05-04 * Eddy Bosnar remained on the bench as Sturm Graz won 4-1 at home against Bregenz. Sturm finished the season in 9th on 35 points.
DUTCH DIVISION TWO (HOLLAND CASINO ERE DIVISIE/GOUDEN GIDS DIVISIE) Play-Off B Date: 22-05-04 * Australian Under 23 Brett Holman came on in the 68th minute as Excelsior lost 1-0 at home against Heracles Almelo. * Lindsay Wilson played a full game as FC Volendam lost 1-0 at home against De Graafschap. Date: 19-05-04 * Australian Under 23 Brett Holman came on in the 84th minute as Excelsior drew 0-0 away to De Graafschap. * Lindsay Wilson played a full game and scored an own goal in the 80th minute as FC Volendam lost 4-0 away to Heracles Almelo. GERMAN DIVISION ONE (BUNDESLIGA) Date: 22-05-04 * Frank Juric (gk) remained on the bench as Bayer Leverkusen won 2-0 at home against VfB Stuttgart. Bayer finished the season in 4th position, overtaking Stuttgart on the final day of the season. Bayer will compete in the qualifying rounds of the UEFA Champions League.
GERMAN DIVISION TWO (2.BUNDESLIGA) Date: 23-05-04 * Saso Radulovic came on in the 70th minute as RW Oberhausen won 3-2 at home against Osnabruck. Oberhausen finished in 5th position, two points away from promotion. * Christophe Teinert came on in the 82nd minute as FSV Mainz 05 won 3-0 at home against Eintracht Trier. Mainz finished the season in 3rd position on 54 points and secured the final promotion spot to the German Bundesliga. A 1-0 loss for Alemannia Aachen over the weekend and the fact that Mainz also had a superior goal difference over Energie Cottbus saw Mainz elevated to the top-flight.
DANISH DIVISION ONE (SUPALIGAEN) Date: 23-05-04 * Shane Cansdell-Sheriff played a full game as AGF Aarhus lost 3-1 away to AB Copenhagen.
NORWEGIAN DIVISION ONE (TIPPELIGAEN) Date: 23-05-04 * Kasey Wehrman was replaced in the 62nd minute while Shane Stefanutto came on in the 64th minute as Lillestrom won 1-0 at home against Sogndal. * Dylan MacAllister played a full game as Brann Bergen won 3-1 at home against Bodo/Glimt. Date: 20-05-04 * Dylan MacAllister played a full game as Brann Bergen lost 2-1 away to Stabaek.
ROMANIAN DIVISION ONE Date: 23-04-04 * Australian Under 23 Jon McKain played a full game as National Bucharesti lost 2-1 at home against Otelul Galati. National is in 8th position with two games remaining. SPANISH DIVISION ONE (PRIMERA LIGA) Date: 23-05-04 * Socceroo John Aloisi was replaced in the 64th minute as Athletico Osasuna lost 1-0 away to FC Sevilla. Osasuna finished the season in a disappointing 12th position.
