ACTION IN THE UK…

  ENGLISH PREMIER LEAGUE Date: 10-04-05 *         Qantas Socceroo Tim Cahill played a full game and scored in the 47th and 54th minutes, as Everton won 4-0 at home against Crystal Palace. For Palace, Qantas Socceroo Tony Popovic was not in the squad. With four rounds remaining, Everton is in 4th place (four clear of 5th), while Palace is in 19th, but only two points behind 17th place. Date: 09-04-05 *         Qantas Socceroo Stan Lazaridis came on in the 60th minute, as Birmingham City drew 1-1 away at Chelsea. Birmingham is in 13th and is assured of a mid-table finish. *         Qantas Socceroo Harry Kewell was not in the Liverpool squad that lost 1-0 away at Manchester City. Liverpool is in 5th place, four points behind Everton. *         Qantas Socceroo Lucas Neill played a full game, while fellow Qantas Socceroo Brett Emerton came on at half time, as Blackburn Rovers won 3-0 at home against Southampton. The win all but ensured Blackburn is clear of the relegation zone and in 14th place. *         Qantas Under 23 Brad Jones (gk) played a full game, after Qantas Socceroo Mark Schwarzer (gk) (back) was hurt in the warm up and was not included in the squad, along with Qantas Socceroo Mark Viduka (hamstring), as Middlesbrough lost 1-0 at home against Arsenal. Middlesbrough is in 8th place and still in the mix for a European spot for next season.

  ENGLISH LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP Date: 09-04-05 *         Paul Reid played a full game and scored in the 80th minute, as Brighton & Hove Albion drew 1-1 at home with Leicester. For Leicester, Qantas Socceroo Danny Tiatto was replaced in the 73rd minute and received a yellow card. With four rounds to go, Brighton is in 22nd position (of 24) but only on goal difference and just one point away from the relegation zone (bottom three), while Leicester is in 16th position and still in danger of being sucked into the relegation dogfight. *         Qantas Socceroo Tony Vidmar played a full game and received a yellow card, as Cardiff City lost 2-0 at home against Wigan Athletic. For Wigan, John Filan (gk) played a full game. Cardiff is 19th, but just one point above the relegation zone, while Wigan regained 2nd spot, although Ipswich in third is level and with a game in hand. *         Qantas Socceroo Kevin Muscat (achilles) was not in the Millwall squad that won 4-3 at home against Crewe. Millwall is 9th place and still gives them a very slim hope of a play-off berth.

Bradford is in 11th place and eight points behind for a play-off place with four rounds remaining. Date: 09-04-05 *         Shane Huke played a full game, as Peterborough won 1-0 at home against Blackpool. The win still gives Peterborough some chance of avoiding relegation, albeit, a very slim chance. *         Chris Coyne came on in the 25th minute, as Luton won 1-0 at home against Bournemouth. Luton. The win keeps Luton is 1st place and has all but ensured promotion to the League Championship next season. They remain three points clear of Hull and 13 clear of Tranmere, who have a game in hand. *         Qantas Socceroo Luke Wilkshire was not in the Bristol City squad that lost 1-0 away at Brentford and virtually ended any chance of play-off berth. Bristol is in 9th spot, nine points behind the last qualifying place team. *         Richard Garcia came on in the 70th minute, as Colchester drew 1-1 at home with Hartlepool. For Hartlepool, Joel Porter (injured) was not in the squad. Colchester is mid-table in 14th place, while Hartlepool is in 5th spot and looking good for a play-off place. *         Les Pogliacomi (gk) remained on the bench, as Oldham Athletic drew 1-1 at home with Sheffield Wednesday. Oldham is in 18th place and only six points clear of the relegation zone. *         Jamie McMaster was replaced in the 67th minute, while Qantas Young Socceroo Aaron Downes was not in the Chesterfield squad that lost 1-0 away at Port Vale. Yeovil is in 1st place with four rounds remaining, but just one point clear of Southend, who have a game in hand and three points ahead of Scunthorpe. *         Adrian Webster played a full game, as Darlington lost 3-1 away at Cambridge United. Darlington is in 7th place and four points away from a play-off place. *         Frank Talia (gk) played a full game, while Adrian Caceres was not in the squad, as Wycombe Wanderers drew 0-0 away at Grimsby. Wycombe is in 9th place, seven points away from a play-off place. *         Predrag Bojic was not in the Northampton squad that lost 2-1 at home against Scunthorpe.
