It came off the back of a World Cup in Brazil some seven months earlier. Then-national coach Guus Hiddink included the Sydneysider in the 2006 World Cup squad for Germany, and he was again included in the 2010 squad for South Africa under Pim Verbeek.
Milligan moved from Sydney FC to Newcastle Jets in 2008 and then followed that with spells in China, with Shanghai Shenhua and in the J-League with JEF United.
In January 2011, Milligan signed for Melbourne Victory as an injury replacement player and formalised his place in the team signing a three-year deal ahead of the 2012/13 Hyundai A-League season, a season where he took home the club's top honour - the Victory Medal.
He remains an absolutely key part of the Victory team under Kevin Muscat.
At 29 he’s truly at his peak as a versatile midfielder and very much a part of Ange Postecoglou’s plans on the road to Russia 2018.
