Aussies Abroad: Vukovic's 355-day return, Taggart & O'Neill's extra-time heroics

Socceroos goalkeeper Danny Vukovic played his first match in almost a year after recovering from a ruptured achilles tendon whilst Adam Taggart scored the winner for Suwon Bluewings in their FA Cup match against Jeju United.

Danny Vukovic’s long-awaited return to action finally arrived in Belgium overnight as he put in a full shift between the sticks for KRC Genk, after injury ruled him out for the past 355 days.

An achilles injury he sustained at the end of July last year meant he was absent for the 2019/20 league season.

However, the Aussie shot stopper is now injury free and looking likely to be ready to return to first team action when the Belgian First Division begins on August 8.

Over to Korea and Adam Taggart scored an extra time winner for Suwon Bluewings in their round of 16 FA Cup tie against Jeju United on Wednesday night.

Taggart popped up with the all-important goal on 99 minutes as his Bluewings recorded a 1-0 win to secure their progression into the quarter finals.

Brandon O’Neill also played a crucial role for Pohang Steelers as they secured a 3-2 win against Sangju Sangmu.

This fixture ended all square at 2-2 after 90 minutes before O'Neill teed up Stanislav Iljutcenko for the deciding goal in the dying moments of the second half of extra time.
