Young Socceroos stun Laos to progress into semis

The Young Socceroos are through to the semi-finals of the AFF Under-19 Championships after completing the group stage with a come-from-behind win over Laos overnight.

Second half goals from attackers Lachlan Scott and George Blackwood was enough for Ufuk Talay’s side to prevail 2-1 at the Vietnam YFTC.

Needing only a draw to progress to the last four, the young Aussies looked in strife when Santi Somphoupeth’s goal just before half-time saw them trailing at the break.

And with group rivals Myanmar leading in the other group match, the Young Socceroos needed a goal to stay alive in the tournament.

Western Sydney Wanderers striker Scott provided it, showing great composure to pounce with an equaliser 17 minutes from time.

Sydney FC rising star Blackwood then completed the comeback five minutes from time when he made no mistake from the penalty spot to ensure second spot in Group B.

The Young Socceroos will face host nation Vietnam in the semis on Thursday night.
