Socceroo striker Mark Viduka was today ruled out of the upcoming matches against Turkey and the OFC Nations Cup.

After suffering hamstring and back injuries Viduka missed Saturday's 3-all draw between his club Leeds United and Charlton.

Socceroo coach Frank Farina, who will announce the squad for the Turkey series tomorrow, said that Viduka will still likely travel to Australia and join-up with the rest of the squad.

"I spoke to Mark last night and we now have the full information regarding his injury," said Farina.

"He has been playing with discomfort and needs some time off to recover."

"I'm still expecting him to come into camp and be involved with the team in some capacity.  He's very keen to say hello to the boys and at the same time our medical staff can assist with his recovery."

"We always work with a group of 30-35 players.  It's unfortunate that you lose players to injuries but it proves why we are working with this large number of players.  Our depth will be important in the future and this will give an opportunity to someone else in the squad to step up and gain valuable experience."
