Oar in sights of Dutch champions

Socceroo forward Tommy Oar is a target for Eredivisie champions Ajax, according to a local media outlet in the Netherlands.

Oar, 22, is out of contract at the end of the season and - as reported by RTV Utrecht - is being lined up as a replacement for Dane Lasse Schone, who is expected to leave the Amsterdam Arena.

Former Brisbane Roar winger Oar has proved his worth in the Dutch top flight, making over 90 league appearances since signing for Utrecht in 2010.

He also has more than 20 Australia caps to his name and featured regularly during the recent FIFA World Cup.

Oar had been linked with a switch to the Udinese during the tournament itself, although no move was forthcoming.

The Socceroos will be looking to win their first AFC Asian Cup when Asia’s biggest football tournament heads to Australia in January 2015.

32 matches over 23 days will be played in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Canberra and Newcastle with the Socceroos kicking off the tournament against Kuwait in Melbourne on January 9.
