Nichols inks deal with Wanderers

Western Sydney have made their second midfield signing in the space of four days with the addition of Socceroo Mitch Nichols from Japanese outfit Cerezo Osaka.

The former Palm Beach youth player has joined the Red & Black on a two-year deal that will see him add an attacking and creative force to the Wanderers squad.

It has been a big week for the club following the signing of  Spanish midfielder Andreu Guerao Mayoral, with the Wanderers also revealing their membership numbers for the upcoming season had topped 12,000 in the space of two days.

At 26, Nichols has had a wealth of experience in the Hyundai A-League, including a six-season stint at Brisbane Roar where he scored 21 goals and his season at Melbourne Victory that earned him a contract at Cerezo Osaka.

From Cerezo Osaka, Nichols returned back to the A-League on loan to Perth Glory during last seasons Hyundai A-League where he played 14 games.

The Socceroo has made five appearances representing Australia since 2009 and will be a great addition of depth to the squad.

Western Sydney Wanderers CEO John Tsatsimas said Nichols addition to the Wanderers squad will add an edge to the Wanderers attack this season.

“Mitch has an impressive history in the A-League and his six seasons with Brisbane produced some excellent results including two Championships,” said Tsatsimas.

“He has an unpredictable ability with the ball at his feet which makes him dangerous and his work rate off the ball is a part of his game that often goes unnoticed.

“With over 150 A-League games under his belt and at 26 he is at a prime age for our squad as we reassert ourselves in the competition this season.”
