Caltex Socceroos keeper seals European move

Belgian club Genk have confirmed the signing of Caltex Socceroos gloveman and Sydney FC grand final hero Danny Vukovic.

The experienced shot-stopper will play in Europe for the first time in his career, inking a two-year deal with the Pro League outfit.

It’s the same club where Caltex Socceroos teammate Mat Ryan spent six months on loan at last season from Valencia.

The 32-year-old was a standout for the Sky Blues during their Hyundai A-League title success in the 2016/17 Season, keeping 16 clean sheets in 28 matches.

Vukovic, who holds the record for the most Hyundai A-League appearances (278), also saved a penalty in the shootout in Sydney’s epic grand final win over Melbourne Victory.

His incredible season not only saw Vukovic crowned as the Hyundai A-League’s best goalkeeper but also won him a call-up to Ange Postecoglou’s Caltex Socceroos squad.

Vukovic was a part of  Australia's squad during the recent FIFA Confederations Cup in Russia.
