Caltex Socceroos update

Check out how some of our key Caltex Socceroos are progressing in their respective leagues ahead of March's crucial FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Iraq in Iran on March 23 and March 28 in Sydney versus UAE.

Kewell inspires Australia's rising star Jackson Irvine

Mile Jedinak

The Caltex Socceroos skipper has battled a groin injury, missing the last month for Aston Villa. He’s expected to return to action in the Championship in the next week or two.

Tim Cahill

Enjoying a consistent run of games in the Hyundai A-League, making 15 appearances this season. Returns from suspension for this weekend’s trip to Wellington.

Aaron Mooy

Is ripping it up in the Championship with Huddersfield Town, producing consistent, outstanding performances as the Terriers push for promotion to the EPL.

Mathew Leckie

The winger is a regular with Bundesliga club FC Ingolstadt, playing 89 minutes in the weekend’s 2-0 loss to Bayern Munich. Leckie should get another five games under his belt before March’s qualifiers, too.

Massimo Luongo

Has become a regular starter under new boss Ian Holloway at QPR, signing a new long-term contract with the club this week. Played another 90 minutes in QPR’s 2-1 loss to Mooy’s Huddersfield on the weekend.

Massimo Luongo starred as QPR downed Bristol City 1-0 in the Championship.

Mat Ryan

Finally getting consistent games under his belt after making a loan switch from Valencia to Genk in Belgium. And Ryan’s form has been excellent back in Belgium.

Robbie Kruse

Is currently in Australia as part of new club Liaoning Whowin’s pre-season training camp. Kruse scored in the club’s most recent friendly, a 2-2 draw with NNSW NPL club Edgeworth Eagles. The CSL season starts in early March.

Mark Milligan

A regular in the UAE with club side Bani Yas, playing another 90 minutes in their 3-1 loss to Al Jazira over the weekend. The club has three more fixtures before Australia's qualifiers.

Tom Rogic

Will be out of action for a few months after undergoing surgery recently on an injured ankle. The Celtic playmaker is hopeful of returning before the end of the season in Scotland as well as June’s qualifier against Saudi Arabia.

Mitch Langerak

The number one at German Bundesliga2 club Vfb Stuttgart. Played another full game in the 2-1 win over Sandhausen on the weekend to move five points clear at the top and one step closer to promotion.

Tomi Juric

Has overcome the knee injury which kept him out for a few weeks, back in the match day squad for the last two matches in the Swiss Super League with FC Luzern.

Trent Sainsbury

The defender is getting settled into life at new club Inter Milan, on the bench for their last Serie A clash on the weekend after his loan move from Jiangsu Suning in China.

Bailey Wright

Wright’s move from Preston North End to rival Championship club Bristol City has paid off, with the central defender not only playing every week but he’s also been given the armband. Played another 90 minutes in a 2-1 loss to Leeds on Wednesday.

Adam Federici

Federici’s season appears over after suffering a knee injury in training at EPL club AFC Bournemouth, opening the door for another gloveman to come into the squad for March’s qualifiers.

Brad Smith

Struggling for game time at EPL side AFC Bournemouth, making just five appearances all season for Eddie Howe’s side.

Nathan Burns

Has been training hard as his club FC Tokyo near the end of their rigorous pre-season campaign. The J.League season begins in just over a week.

Matt Spiranovic

Another who has yet to play any competitive matches with his Chinese club Hangzhou Greentown not getting underway until early March.

Milos Degenek

Another Aussie to make the move to Asia, joining J.League outfit Yokohama F. Marinos from 1860 Munich. Will want to hit the ground running when the season starts next week.

Jackson Irvine

Like Mooy, the all-action midfielder has been a model of consistency in the Championship, playing week in, week out with Burton Albion. Is the club’s leading scorer with eight goals from 28 games.

Alex Gersbach

The young left-back enjoyed a double-winning campaign with Rosenborg last season, but the new campaign doesn’t start until April, meaning he won’t have any matches under his belt ahead of the qualifiers.

Alex Gersbach enjoyed success in the Norwegian Cup overnight.

Alex Wilkinson

The Sydney FC defender has been hugely influential this season, helping the Sky Blues to go unbeaten after 19 rounds in the Hyundai A-League.
