Caltex Socceroo in Champions League win over Monaco

Caltex Socceroo winger Robbie Kruse has featured for Bayer Leverkusen in the UEFA Champions League, involved in one of the goals in their big win over Monaco.

While Kruse has barely featured for the German side in the Bundesliga this season, he played the last 20 minutes off the bench on Thursday morning in the final match of the group stage.

And it proved to be a memorable outing for the 28-year-old as Leverkusen won 3-0 at home over the group winners from France.

Goals to Vladlen Yurchenko and Julian Brandt had the German side leading 2-0 early in the second half before Kruse won a penalty nine minutes from the end.

He used his pace to get in behind the defence before he was hacked down just inside the box.

Wendell's penalty hit the crossbar but came back and hit goalkeeper Morgan De Sanctis before rolling into the net.

Leverkusen finish second in the UCL group and go into next Monday night’s draw (AEDT) where they have the possibility of meeting either Barcelona, Arsenal, Napoli, Juventus, Leicester City or Atletico Madrid in the last 16.
