Wright tastes Cup success against Aussie teammates

Caltex Socceroos defender Bailey Wright has tasted success in England's League Cup while there was another clean sheet for Mitch Langerak in Germany this morning (AEST).

Back in the starting side for Preston after injury, Wright - who's been named in the Caltex Socceroos for October's two World Cup qualifiers - played the entire 120 minutes after it took extra-time for his side to beat AFC Bournemouth 3-2.

Preston led 1-0 at the break but the home side – which featured Brad Smith and Adam Federici in their starting line-up – fought back to lead 2-1 before Simon Makienok equalised five minutes from time.

Makienok then completed his hat-trick in the second half of extra-time as Wright and Preston held on for a thrilling win to move into the last 16 of the EFL Cup.

In Stuttgart, Langerak made a couple of key saves in each half as Vfb Stuttgart prevailed 2-0 over Eintracht Braunschweig.
