Aussies abroad update

Plenty of Aussies around the globe were in action this weekend, with big Robbie Cornthwaite taking the plaudits in the K-League after a brilliant brace.

UK

Mile Jedinak was both a hero and villain for Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Saturday, scoring a penalty to put his team 2-0 up away to West Bromwich Albion, only to concede a spot-kick in injury time as the Baggies claimed a 2-2 draw.

In the Championship, Scott McDonald played the full game for Millwall in a 1-0 home win over Cardiff City. Adam Federici kept a clean sheet for Reading in a 3-0 win at home to Blackpool.

A tier below in League One, Massimo Luongo saw out 90 minutes and supplied an assist for the second goal as his Swindon Town drew 2-2 at home to Colchester United. 

Neil Kilkenny set up the first of Joe Garner's three goals as Preston North End came from 2-0 down to beat Fleetwood Town 3-2. 

Shane Lowry played the full match but was unable to prevent his 10-man Leyton Orient from going down 3-0 away to Port Vale. 

North of the border, Jackson Irvine, on loan from Celtic, started and finished Ross County's 2-2 draw away to St Mirren.

Europe

In the Eredivisie, Tommy Oar had another assist for FC Utrecht but it wasn’t enough as they were beaten 5-1 at home against giants PSV Eindhoven.

There was better luck for defender Luke Wilkshire who got through the full 90 minutes in Feyenoord’s 1-0 win at SC Cambuur, while Trent Sainsbury came on for the last 20 minutes of PEC Zwolle’s 2-2 draw with SC Heerenveen.

Mathew Leckie played a full game for FC Ingolstadt in the 2. Bundesliga in a 1-0 win away to his former club FSV Frankfurt.

Mat Ryan played a full match for Club Brugge who were held to a 2-2 draw by Gent.

James Holland started and finished the game for Austria Wien in a 2-0 home win over Wiener Neustadt.

Ivan Franjic came on at half-time as his Torpedo Moscow were held to a 0-0 draw at home to Kuban Krasnodar.

In the Turkish Super Lig, Aziz Behich was part of the Bursaspor defence that kept a clean sheet in a thumping 5-0 win away to Balıkesirspor.

James Troisi played 90 minutes for Zulte Waregem in a 2-1 Pro League loss at home to Cercle Brugge.

Dario Vidosic started and finished the game for Sion as they earned a 1-1 draw on the road at Swiss Super League leaders Basel.

Asia

Jonas Salley's Guizhou Renhe drew 0-0 at home to Shandong Luneng in the Chinese Super League. Daniel McBreen came on with 30 minutes to go and helped Shanghai SIPG record a 3-0 win at home to Jiangsu Sainty.

Adam Hughes and Harbin Yiteng were on the wrong end of a 5-1 loss at Guangzhou R&F. Josh Mitchell fared better, playing the full game for Liaoning in a 1-0 win away to Dalian Aerbin.

In the K-League, Robbie Cornthwaite was a real hero for his side, coming on in the second half to score twice late on to earn Chunnam Dragons a 3-3 draw away to Incheon. 


Aleksandar Jovanovic was part of the Jeju United team that lost 1-0 at Gyeongnam. Alex Wilkinson helped Jeonbuk Motors to defeat Suwon by the same scoreline.

Mark Bresciano played and picked up a booking for Al Gharafa in their 2-1 home win over El Jaish in the Qatar Stars League. Brett Holman provided an assist for his team's first goal but could not stop Al Nasr from losing 3-2 to Al Jazira in the United Arab Emirates.

North America

Tim Cahill played for New York Red Bulls in 2-0 win away to Sporting Kansas City, as team-mate Bradley Wright-Phillips broke the record for goals scored by an individual in the Major League Soccer regular season.
